Imitation of February Red Stonefly
Hook Tiemco 2487, Mustad Klinkhamer #14-12
Thread Orange
Body European ringnecked pheasant tail feather
Thorax European ringnecked pheasant tail feather
Ving case Reddish brown seal fur
Wing Polypropylene yarn, cream or white
Tying
The fly is tied Klinkhamer style with a bit thicker under body. The wing is divided in two equal parts. The first part of wing is tied back flat after the body has been finished. Tie the hackle in front of the foremost wing. Before tying the parachute hackle dub some seal fur on the thread. Tie it from the hook eye backwards behind the first wing so that it will fill the gap between the wings and rip superfluous material off. The parachute hackle is tied round the foremost wing. Leave the thread hanging just behind the wing. Work the wing down with your thumbnail and fasten it so that the thread goes over the polypropylene yarn about one millimetre from the edge of hackle turns. Divide the hackle on both sides nicely. After fastening the wing strengthen the base of the wing with a small drop of superglue or lacquer. Move the thread with one turn behind the hook eye and finish the fly.

Thread Black
Tail Two capercaillie tail feather strands
Body Capercaillie tail feather
Back Dark Brown hen side feather
Thorax Black seal fur
Ving case Dark Brown hen side
Feet Thin black rubber strands
Head Black tying thread
Tying
After tying tail fasten 5-6 Capercaillie tail feather strands from tip and wind this bunch round tying thread several times. Grab this bunch and work the body with even turns to the middle point of the hook shank. Attach first pair of legs and over that point tie in the first wing sack. Wing sack is made of lacquered hen side feather. Tune with marker pen if necessary. Dub a little of seal fur. Tie in the second set of legs and wing. Fasten a soft side feather of hen for the back of thorax. If wanted it is possible to attach the third pair of legs here. Dub again a little and then fold the hen feather over and tie a nicer head than me.
